Fix your car using the real service manual.
Tell wrench.repair what's wrong with your car. It walks you through the repair using the manufacturer's own service manual, written for how much experience you have.
- Loosen the lug nuts first
With the car still on the ground and the parking brake on, turn each lug nut about half a turn. The tire's weight keeps the wheel from spinning.
- Lift the car and support it
Jack at the lift point shown in your manual, then set a jack stand under the frame and lower the car onto it.
Never work under a car held up only by a jack. - Take the wheel off
Behind it is a metal disc (the rotor) with a clamp around its edge (the caliper).
- Remove the lower slide bolt
It's on the back of the caliper. Your manual lists the socket size.
- Swing the caliper up
It pivots on the top bolt like a car hood. Don't let it hang by the rubber brake hose.
- Swap the pads
Slide the old pads out, move any metal clips to the new ones, and slide them in.
- Push the piston back
New pads are thicker, so press the caliper piston in slowly with a C-clamp. Watch that the brake fluid doesn't overflow.
- Put it back together and test
Tighten the slide bolt to the torque in your manual, refit the wheel, and pump the brake pedal until it's firm.
The first few stops can feel soft. Test at low speed.
- Break lugs, lift, support, pull wheel
Jack stands at the manual's lift points
- Remove lower slide bolt, pivot caliper up

- Swap pads and hardware
Inspect rotor for scoring and minimum thickness
- Compress piston
Watch the reservoir level
